The State Theatrical Arts Resources (STAR) Partnership is a unique program that offers filmmakers access to unused, distinctive State-owned properties (e.g., health facilities, vacant office structures, prisons, etc.) for a nominal fee or at no charge, thus helping production companies to substantially cut below-the-line expenses. Permits for STAR properties are also obtained through the CFC.
Free permits for California State properties.

Coordination with more than 55 in-state film commissions. CFC will e-mail your customized location requests to designated film commission offices.

  Support services are readily available.
California has many types of location options, just about every kind of look.
California Locations - Diverse, Plentiful, Accessible
The state film office serves as the your conduit to access many of California's state lands, locations and facilities, free of charge. California is the home of Hollywood. The Golden State served as backdrops for John Ford's 1939 film Stagecoach, and the recent remake of Planet of the Apes. California has everything from the green forests of the northwest to the arid deserts of the Middle East, and the wet rice paddies of Asia to the snow-capped mountain vistas overlooking cactus-covered desert landscape.
